The Republican leaders of the nation and the state have been making decisions since their elections roiled the status quo. Will politics ever be the same? The consequences of their budget decisions, approaches to health care, challenges to public education, changes to tax policy, reactions to climate change and relations with the legislative branch of government will be examined for their policy and political implications by those directly impacted, as well as by lawmakers, lobbyists, representatives of non-profit organizations and journalists. Can the national government be run by tweets? Can the state legislature be influenced by targeted campaign contributions and endorsements? These and other questions will be pondered and discussed, but not necessarily answered. Instructors: Molly McCleery, attorney and deputy health care director, Nebraska Appleseed; Renee Fry, executive director, OpenSky Policy Institute; Jack Gould, issues chair, Common Cause Nebraska; Sen.
